Say No to Distracted Driving

Texting While Driving is ILLEGAL in Tennessee.
As of Tuesday, October 1, 2013, the act of composing, reading or sending electronic text messages while driving is illegal in Tennessee. This awesome legislation prohibits a motorist from texting or using any other type of wireless communication device while operating a moving vehicle.

In 2011 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration completed a study that found that over 3,000 deaths and 387,000 injuries were attributed to distracted driving. In fact, texting while driving is now the leading cause of US teen deaths. Other studies have shown that people who text (or drive distracted) while operating a motor vehicle are more than six times as likely to be involved in a crash than drivers who were not distracted – because they were concentrating on the road! Hopefully, this legislation while continue to be more consistently and thoroughly enforced by law enforcement.

After all, that’s what most of the public wants. In 2013 AAA Auto, the parent company of AAA, completed a survey that revealed that 92% of registered voters favored legislation banning all persons from operating a moving motor vehicle while reading, manually writing or typing or sending a message on an electronic wireless communication device.
